A monstrous AR mobile game

Pinball Lizard

Microsoft Azure wanted to take a “show, don’t tell” approach to demonstrating features of Azure PlayFab, a gaming platform with out-of-the-box solutions for developers. They approached my team to make a demo that could flex the power of the PlayFab toolkit. Little did they know they had awoken a monster! (The titular character of the game, of course.)

Process overview

Success = getting game devs hyped about the possibilities on PlayFab.

UX and wireframes

I established an IA map covering the two key areas of this demo: the game loop and in-app marketplace. For the game loop I paid special attention to details like placing buttons within reach of a thumb on a smartphone.

Custom illustrated UI

I designed an action-packed UI system with a comic book feel. It was important to go beyond basic styling to make a demo that inspires developers working on their own games.

Marketing

After our demo game app was ready to go on GitHub, I created a landing page that captured the same energy as the game itself. Using art from our expert illustrator, I made a highly-engaging and graphic layout.
